Spinal Decompression Therapy

HOW WELL DOES SPINAL DECOMPRESSION WORK?

Dr. John Leslie, MD of the mayo clinic reports Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression is 88.9% effective. This based on a multi-center, phase II, non-randomized pilot study. Patients in the study were suffering from chronic back pain for an average of 10 years. After two weeks of treatments there was a 50% reduction in pain scores and after completing the entire six-week protocol Dr. Leslies, MD documented and overall success rate of 88.9%

IS DECOMPRESSION ONLY FOR A CERTAIN PART OF THE SPINE?

Our decompressions tables have the ability to decompress lumbar, thoracic and cervical discs. This will help alleviate pain caused by bulging discs in the low back, mid back and neck.

HOW DOES SPINAL DECOMPRESSION WORK?

Pressures developing from various stresses over time along with wear and tear inside the disc eventually cause the disc to bulge out and press against the nerve roots ultimately causing pain. Degenerative discs, compressed discs or worn-down discs also allow for less space for the nerve allowing it to get easily irritated. With long term compression the areas around the nerve and the nerves become irritated and the inflammatory process begins causing chronic pain.
Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression produces negative pressures within the disc through a series of decompression sessions. This negative pressure creates a vacuum effect that takes pressure off the nerve by drawing back in the bulging or protruded disc.

Experts also believe that during non-surgical spinal decompression oxygen, nutrients, and other fluids are drawn to the disc itself stimulating the body’s natural repair mechanism.
Goodlife Physical Medicine utilizes decompression along with class 4 laser therapy to promote quicker healing.

HOW DOES SPINAL DECOMPRESSION WORK?

Depending on the size of the bulge and the history the doctor will recommend sessions of 6-8-12-16 or 22 sessions to ensure a full recovery. These sessions span over an 8-12-week period. It is not uncommon for patients to experience improvement in their symptoms after just a few treatments, however to avoid repeat injuries and allow the discs to heal completely it is recommended to finish the program.

IS NON-SURGICAL SPINAL DECOMPRESSION SAFE?

Yes, Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression is completely safe for patients that qualify for the treatment. However not everyone suffering from these conditions will qualify.

HOW DO I QUALIFY?

While Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression is 88.9% effective for qualified individuals. Our current acceptance rate is only about 6 in 10. That mean for every 10 people we evaluate only 6 are accepted as qualified candidate for the program. There are a variety of reasons for this which is why a comprehensive medical evaluation is necessary to accurate make that decision.
To determine if you qualify you will complete a comprehensive medical and physical examination. X-rays may be taken or an MRI ordered before starting treatment. If you already have had these done please provide copies for our doctor when coming in for your consultation.

Only after our medical team has completed your history and examination and review all supporting imaging and documentation, we will determine if you qualify or not.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Since not every patient will benefit from decompressions therapy we offer a free consultation to determine to what extent decompression will help you. If your problem is not one that decompression will help the doctor may recommend an alternative treatment.
